- Description
- An experimental evaluation of the OLDS elevator concept operating in vertical and inclined position is presented, providing data for vertical conveying of a granular material to find effects of tip clearance and rotational speed for two granular material. The research team selected sorghum and wheat as granular bulk materials and utilized discrete element modeling techniques and DEM simulation. The results show that at non zero cutter height, the granular material flow rate drops to zero as individual particles become unable to enter the aperture. The tests also found that both the granular materials have a very similar rupture strength. The experimental testing of an OLDS type elevator shows a linear relationship of federate with tube speed and a relative level of insensitivity to tip clearance in overall performance.
